Plasterboard tape required prior to tiling?

Hi All. Do I need to apply plasterboard tape prior to tiling in my bathroom and shower enclosure or can I fill the joints with adhesive or gap filler instead? Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

Ideally I’d remove plasterboard and replace with wedi board.

If you keep the plasterboard, I’d tape and joint it before tanking.

I was going to keep the MR plasterboard I've installed and use the Mapei water defence kit, so prime it first then apply the tape during the tanking process?
