Hi guys, I done a 6 months gas foundation course and finished in January. The training center promised the world before they got the cash but since passing i have appllied/sent letters to over 100 companies and not had a single reply. Im now aware that no one in the industry respects these courses. Between course fees and loss of earnings while studying im roughly 20 grand out of pocket.
During training I specialised in Installs doing my placement for the green deal and believe i was pretty good for somone at that level
I have now changed tact and trying to get work as part of a squad or as a 2nd man doing installations, Im willing to work for free or a pittance if any of you can help me, Im in the glasgow area and willing to travel.
Thanks:banghead:

I meant to put on the qualifactions I obtained. CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, CPA1, HTR1 AND MET1. During my placement i was doing combi/combi swaps myself in 3 hours, Safely, neatly and quickly

Three questions:
How can you fit a boiler replacement properly in 3hrs on placement
Why were you working on your own on placement, that's illegal, you can only do one-one supervised gas work while you complete your portfolio,
Where did you train and do placement

Obviously the engineer was with me supervising my work. I did my placement with sprint energy shadowing their engineer

When i started my placement i just assisted the lead engineer by doing tasks that would enable him to complete the job in a shorter timeframe after doing that for over 100 boilers i was allowed a more hands on role and towards the end of the placement i would be allowed to do complete change myself only if the lead engineer was confident i had the ability. The engineer i was shadowing, done his apprenticship with British Gas, then worked for them for a furher 10 years after being time served.

System/combi and back boiler/combi could take you all day depended on the job and by that i mean starting at 6 in the morning and some times finishing as late as 10pm.

Im a forty year old man with a lot of life skills, having previously served as an apprentice Plant Mechanic reparing telescoptic mobile cranes and also worked as a blacksmith with these skills i was already way ahead of other people in the class who where young men who only ever worked in offices

I very much doubt if there is a single company doing the green deal that shall use a power flush machine. As its the Goverment thats paying for it and they dont splash the cash. We done a hot and cold flush and added chemicals. My post was asking for advice and to offer my services for free. Not the above

Hi there need. Never boast about how quick u can do something as speed should only come with experience. Like said earlier there is no way on earth that 3 hours will do a combi change . Only if it was like for like exact replacement. Please dont take this the wrong way but thats not really what employers want to hear from a beginner. But the instaltions were done safe and swift. I hope u have luck in future as there are thousands of people in same circumstances as yourself and this is why they are trying to do away with short length courses. Best of luck .. Kris

Hi Kris, thanks for the advice i shall adjust my CV but i was talking about like for like. I certainly didint mean for it to come across as a boast and im well aware that safety is a far bigger priorty than speed. The lead engineer would never have let me near a boiler if i couldnt 1st of all do it safely as at the end of the day it was his name on the job.

All i asked for Phil was advice or the chance to gain more experience not sarcasm if you can't offer any why do you feel the need to butt in with neither. While im with a company i do the job they ask me to do to the best of my ability unless if contravens the regs. What company is going to change their working practices if a trainee pipes up to tell them how to run their business

Where did you do your training, if you don't mind me asking, PM me if you would rather discuss any issues there rather than on the forum
I'm doing some gas auditing work for Renfrewshire Council starting very soon, on their gas install contractor, and I've already thought about seeing if there are any placement possibilities, will find out when I start

fair do missed that one, but 3 hours to complete a combi swap is going some, takes me a age to get everything out the van into the house :)
