Slow cooked for 3 hours.

Looks spot on

Just procured a 3 kilo turkey. I cooked last years turkey in the weber braai (not sure of the UK name, pic below) and it was outstanding, the turkey was the first meat to run out so I'm doing the same again this year.

3Kg is fairly small for a whole turkey? Never tried to do one on the BBQ as don't have the confidence to get the temps right, but in the past. I have cooked a chicken by burying in the ground with hot coals/stones and that came out really good as well...

This year a farmer friend offered to get me a turkey for Xmas..Knowing the guy I did not hold me breath...Went up to the farm to collect it and it weighed 44lb oven ready! I politely declined it and went out and bought a 2.5Kg crown instead...

44lb!?

I, on the other hand, missed the Turkey bonanza altogether this year. Actually now I think about it, that makes at least four years running that my Christmas meal has been meat-free. Unless you count the mince pies I make that have both suet and lard in them.

Plus sides are good food and good company with my (vegetarian) friends.
Minus sides are no turkey, no leftover turkey, no turkey broth, no frozen turkey, and no way of annoying militant vegetarians. EDIT militant vegetarians can always be annoyed another time.

Yep, 44lb apparently... he bought it at an auction at a local cattle market....Now I did not weigh it but it looked like an escapee from an ostrich farm to me...

Vegetablist checking in. Well done for taking account of your friend's diets. I had my favourite veggie sausages with mash, onion gravy and all the veg bits that go with a roast.

I don't think many people want bangers 'n' mash for Xmas dinner but I was well happy with that.

I have to admit, I wasn't the one cooking, I was the invited person. My friends would prefer to cook than travel, I'm the opposite. But happy to help by washing up.
