I am trying to remove a tap head to inspect it and repair a drip. There is no retaining screw in the top of the upper cover, it all seems to be a single piece. I have scewed it to the biggest opening position, but it stops ther. I have tried to prise it off, but no joy. I have checked my 18 d-i-y and 8 plumbing books, but none the wiser. This is my first hope of joy after 24 hrs trawling the internet. Thames water have already been around to investigate a 'supply leak'. I am no a multi limbed mutant, and don't want to damage the tap (or myself!). Any ideas? Image will not upload.

Photo will not downloas. I'm new here, but it just won't work. 1.jpg

It looks its just sitting on the spindle. What about using bit of wd40 and try again after few mins to remove it. use some rubber gloves to hold as it will probably slip after you spray it. just a thought ;) somebody might give better advice.

If WD40 fails, a bit of a warm up from the blowlamp generally works. If that fails it would probably be more cost effective to buy a new set of taps rather than spend hours mucking about with it.

Taps look way past sell by date, you can get a new Pr for under £20.00.

Its a BBc ( barking brass) the top leavers off, keep your widest flat screw driver in one place and keep opening and closing the tap and leavering gently.
