Hi. Be most grateful for any advice from the learned. I've been to one of these that intermittently cycles with a very loud deep vibrating noise. Sounds respiration based.

Does it with the front off also so not flue seals I'm thinking?
Doesn't change if I touch/move fan. Flue.

Condense clear. Sump clear. Trap clear.
Fga great
Inlet pressure fine
Gas valve resistance correct as per ideal technical.

When I first went to it it had no water in the trap. Probably because the flue had no fall. And it was set to max so no condensing. Remedied these two faults and it seemed to go away. Jobs a good UN I thought.

Customer calls and its making noises again.
Will check trap has water in again when I go back as it seemed to be linked to having an open airway into the drain.

Other things I've done
Run hot water through hex
Checked hex which is clear
Cleaned sump of hex bits
Changed ignition electrode and ionisation probe and set to correct dimensions.

Changed pump (external) as that was shot
Condense and flue now run downhill the right way.
Reseated fan.

Thanks Jon

fan wobble?

How would I tell? When I checked the hex i took the cover off it to check it over and it span freely. No broken or missing fins. Not crudded up at all. Oiled it for good measure.

any noise on start up of fan?

its private

Jonny , you seem to have gone through everything , have you blown / cleared / checked the condensate pipe. I had one a while ago that had a blockage in the kitchen sink waste pipe.

Should be ok now. Doesn't do justice to how loud the bloody thing is.

sounds like the fan have you got a flat head screw driver put the end on the fan and can you feel when it gets worse/noise?

Sucked it out with the wet vac. It enters kitchen sink waste pipe below trap, wm spigot etc.
House basher job with condense run up hill before it entered the wall. Good knows what it does behind the wall.

Thinking of putting in a 22mm trap and air gap in case it was siphoning? And changing the trap for completeness sake

I'll try that tomorrow. Used my finger to try to slow it down to see if I could affect it in any way and no joy.

You mean on the pin end that supports the fan?

anything that is in contatc with the fan eg surround etc

I know its a long shot, but where it joins the waste , is where the one i did was blocked with fat. , but thinking again if it makes the noise while you are there and the sump is dry it cant be blocked

Took it apart as much as I could at the join but it was solvent weld all the way so only access at the compression Jon above[emoji17] . Was clear

Not that I could see. not being pulled off by the gas pipe either.

no put your screw driver on anything that is in contact with the fan eg surround etc :D

It does sound like the Solenoid on the Gas Valve but hard to tell Jon. Seals, trap and gas valves themselves always tend to sound similar on these...more like a hooting whistle!

Any way of testing it?

The sound is really bassy with a lot of pressure behind it.

have you had the burner off these are known for insulation falling on burner . the turrrt can block as well try pouring hot water down inner flue but be carefull.

Yes, had the burner off. Insulation fine. And poured hot water down the flue. Must be careful of?

Absolutely correct. It is now compulsory to look inside on each service now, if you weren't already.

Your customer should think themselves lucky that p.o.s is working at all! Let alone noisey.

Flue was made of three parts.

Turns out middle was a different flue entirely and there was no seal between two sections of the exhaust.

Gas valve sorted the noise.

Flue needed replacing as there was a joint in the wall. Was worse than I thought on pulling it out.

And when it goes wrong again in six months time, they'll wish they would have had a new boiler.
