Thought I was looking at American plumbing there at first.

What's that U piece on your gauge, I take it it's to prevent your hose kinking? Not that I have a use for my manometer atm but interested all the same.

That's just to go on the end of the gauge when it's not in use. To stop the liquid spilling out. Nothing fancy mate!

I think Howsie is pulling your leg! The hose isn't connected to the gauge you see!

yes, especially with lead work: fold over the end and hammer flat! Have seen a number of places with copper pipe flattened and soldered, usually on water but occasionally on gas.
