Anyone have any ideas why I am getting dark marks on my walls radiating upwards for about 350mm in line with the radiator mounting brackets and is there a cure.

Any chance of a pic

Sounds like heat staining

Hope this helps

In short it's dirt and it's rising in the heat and staining on the wall

Very common

And tbh not much you can do

Vacc and a duster to clear out behind the radiator.

You could fit a shelf a few inches above the radiator to deflect the convected heat away from the wall a little, also its worth getting a long handled bottle bush to remove dust build up between the convection fins and improve the heat output.

As Shaun said, dust normally. It is common. In houses where people use candles or smoke that's another common cause of stainng.
The air circulates quite quickly around radiators due to their design.

Seen so called Ion air purifiers cause it .
( No longer have a CRT TV to attract all the fine black stuff )
-- Also noticeable with modern decoration Laminate, no carpet / rug / curtains for it to gather on !--
