Is there such a thing as a unblockable drain cover or unblockable drain?
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Turnpin! I can remove the waste and replace it if need be to solve the problem. But I can't do any major modification stuff as it would require ripping everything up.That looks more like a bath or Belfast sink waste the only thing I can suggest is a balloon guard normally fitted to gutter or soil vent pipes or make something up yourself using chicken wire netting....oh and welcome to the forums...regards Turnpin
What might be more appropriate to replace it with?Doesn't really look fit for purpose that!
Other than ripping it out and installing something more appropriate then routine maintenance is going to have to surfice.
You could put in a puddle pump that activates when it floods... like a sump pump but shallower.
Problem with puddle pumps is that they have a very shallow inlet grill which could easily block in this case.Doesn't really look fit for purpose that!

Didn`t mean to quote out of context, didn`t think the cropped out part was needed that`s all.I know. OP could put a leaf guard around it and also most of the detritus would be around the roof drain by the time pump has activated (depending on siting). But no, it's not an ideal remedy rather a sticking plaster which is why I said "could"
And you quoted me out of context
