Is there such a thing as a unblockable drain cover or unblockable drain?
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Turnpin! I can remove the waste and replace it if need be to solve the problem. But I can't do any major modification stuff as it would require ripping everything up.That looks more like a bath or Belfast sink waste the only thing I can suggest is a balloon guard normally fitted to gutter or soil vent pipes or make something up yourself using chicken wire netting....oh and welcome to the forums...regards Turnpin
What might be more appropriate to replace it with?Doesn't really look fit for purpose that!
Other than ripping it out and installing something more appropriate then routine maintenance is going to have to surfice.
You could put in a puddle pump that activates when it floods... like a sump pump but shallower.
Problem with puddle pumps is that they have a very shallow inlet grill which could easily block in this case.Doesn't really look fit for purpose that!

Didn`t mean to quote out of context, didn`t think the cropped out part was needed that`s all.I know. OP could put a leaf guard around it and also most of the detritus would be around the roof drain by the time pump has activated (depending on siting). But no, it's not an ideal remedy rather a sticking plaster which is why I said "could"
And you quoted me out of context
You got that right. I went around the other day and the plughole was blocked and the terrace under the decking was full of water. This is not the first time it's happened. I warned them last time that their neglect could cause an accident to happen i.e. the roof falls in on their heads. Well that didn't scare them and it's happened again. I can't take any chances as in the event of something bad happening I'm sure these tenants wouldn't think twice about legal action. Anyway it is what it is and I have to find a reasonable solution while the weather is good.Tenants!
Some of them seem to expect someone to go round and wipe their bums for them - have to get it out of their bogs and sewers for them, so not much more of an extension of duties
