Replace shower Wetroom Waste

Hi my builder has installed a wet room with the waste connected to the soil pipe without a P trap this is tilled with a waterproof membrane. The room smells of sewage because there is no P Trap. I have had two plumber come by to have a look at this and both have said the tiles will need ripping up and relaying.

There is no access under the waste so its if the installed one can be retrofitted with a P trap. Any one came across something like this? Trying to avoid ripping it out .

Its on ground floor. Floor is built up with aggregate, insulation, concrete, waterproof membrane and then tiles.

Also would like to know the risk if the system/waterproofing has been installed wrong. The waste does not give me overall confidence in their work. I cannot imagine that minor leaks are a big problem as it is on a ground floor concrete slabs? Any thoughts?

You could fit a hepvo inline trap on the outlet pipe. But it will be a job and a half to do.

Makes you wonder what other problems there may be.

The builder has screwed up and needs to put it right. But it needs to be done properly.

Theres no cut on the tiles from the corners either. Does the water run away ok?

Hi Simon thanks for the advice much appreciated. That is not possible as the waste connects into the toilet soil pipe which connects into the main soil downpipe and vent pipe. All this is under the concrete slab. I specifically told the builder they needed an accessible P trap so it could be maintained and prevent smells... I told them this a few times before they did the work.

They also sacked the plumber and did the plumbing second fix. Which I am now having to get a plumber to redo all there work. The plumber did a good job with the first fit. Just trying to avoid a complete rework if at all possible. Not sure why they thought they where competent to do plumbing. Its a costly mistake.

Will get some more pictures of the system this evening and draw out a plan.

Agreed that is a quite appalling job even disregarding the lack of a trap! Surely tiles should properly cut in not just notched round?
Tiles will definitely have to come up out of interest what size is the waste pipe?
Macalpine do a large range of floor gully's including some waterless ones have a look on there web site.

Theres no way you would get an accessible p trap in the concrete.

It looks like the centre of that waste pulls out, or is there a bit missing.

Could be vented incorrectly causing it to be sucked out. Is it a vented stack or have an air admittance valve on the stack.

The trap have managed to temporarily resolve using a large plastic lid. They missed part of the installation. now just need to figure out the proper sediment cup to buy to replace it permanently. Should be fine then.

For tilling and the overall finish think its poor quality. I will point it out to them and hopefully they learn for future jobs but not sure its serious enough to get them to pull up the tiles.

As you say builders doing specialist trades... will be a lesson I take forward. However not sure you can flat out reject a builder doing plumbing unless you do it at the quote/contract stage.

The builders I hired are joiners who specialize in lightweight roofing conversion for conservatories and SIP extension. Wet room is in a SIP extension. Would of thought they can connect waste? I am hopping overall they have done a proper job.. still need to get the building certificate...

Hi Pete it had no seal. Was straight thought to soil pipe so smelled bad. The removable section was there so just needed a sediment cup to create the seal. Currently I have temporarily used a plastic cup lid to create this and need to understand which replacement cup to order. It flows fine now and maintains the seal well. wonder if they picked up the gulley in clearance or something...

Just lost it in the general melee of fitting out a bathroom I expect , pretty easy to do if stuff has get moved from here to there and back again.
