Hello,

I'm a second year apprentice and I have a plumbing competition on 17th February. You are given a set of drawings and are expected to work to them to complete the task as best as possible. The details are as follows:

· Hang 2 x radiators (450mm high & 500mm wide)
· Connect copper pipe work from the radiators to the boiler
· Install accurately to dimensions
· Fit a Magnaclean Professional2
· Fit a Wilo Circulating Pump

Marks will be awarded for:
· Dimension accuracy (-+2mm)
· Quality of bending
· Aesthetics
· Methodology
Marks will be lost for non-economic use of materials and inadequate PPE.

The problem is, I fit kitchens and bathrooms. I have not done any heating systems before at all. You are given the drawing on the day so I'm going in blind. I was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice or tips when working to drawings or installing any of these devices? What would you expect just from the information given? Thanks! Any help is appreciated greatly!

Definitely practice fitting rads. before hand. When accuracy important, lay rad face down, attach bracket in required orientation and measure distance, bottom bracket/ bottom rad, or what ever reference given on drawings. |Practise bending, especially offset and crossover, fix pipe clips to line and level at correct centres. Pay attention to drawing, don't put elbows for swept bends or vice versa.

the rads I use I hang 100mm off the floor, measure the distance from the bottom of the rad bracket to bottom of rad usually 110mm so therefore first bracket goes at 210mm from the floor. the other bracket I level with spirit level off the first one.

i always work from a line at top of brackets as its easier to see and the level cant foul the skirting on new work i strike a line on decorated just a small mark where top of bracket will be drawing dimensions should give you a height and center of the rad, mark the center then mark half the width of the brackets either side of that

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
