Hey guys I'm new to this forum and also a new graduate in the plumbing trade.
I have just started a job where a leak from the bathroom has come through to the downstairs kitchen ceiling, I have checked all the obvious possibilities for the cause of the leak. I.e ( tap connectors, isolation valve and trap ) the bath also has a basic external shower which is connected to the taps mixer, but still can't find the cause of the leak. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Seal on the bath shower mixer or seal between the bath and wall at the tap end.

Thanks guys just got back from the job and I found the seal round the bath was really thinly applied, so I took it all off and reapplied the silicone. Fingers crossed it works.

Was there water staines under the bath?

If you replaced the bath seal you must of seen water marks down the wall under the bath did you?

As Koogatubac says, you need to make the correct diagnosis first. You can waste an awful lot of time fixing things that turn out not to be the cause of the problem and will the customer pay you? I think not.

I have learned to ask lots of questions first ie.

When did the leak start?
Did you have any work done in the bathroom around that time?
Does it seem to be wet all the time or only when you have had a shower or bath?
Has there been a leak in the past?
Have you noticed any bad smells?

I've had customers who have changed the float valve in the toilet cistern and used the old damaged tap washer, a customer who took off the bath trap because she had dropped sometyhing down it and cross threaded it when replacing it. These are just two examples of where a few questions pointed me in the right direction immediately.

It would be interesting to know what other forum members ask in these circumstances.
