Mrs Tara Plumbi

Just sharing....
after 15 years of servicing the same boiler every year after giving a quote to replace it we received this email:

Thank you for your quote but I think take away price of a boiler and the parts leaves the labour cost of around £900 which is a bit steep for what would be a day's work so think I will shop around as I have looked up various makes and prices of boilers all between £600 and £900 so will now look for installation quotes..
Thanks

Amazing! Can you believe it!
--- I know you can - you get the same thing.

After sleeping on it I sent this reply:
We are sorry that our costing was not within your budget on this occasion. The only saving we could offer would be about £120.00 and not fit a new timer and the two new stats.

I am delighted when I earn £900 before income tax for a days work. However, that is not the going rate for a boiler change. You will be aware that we are a VAT registered company with overheads including vehicles, marketing, public liability insurance and the cost of annual registration with the Gas Safe Register and ongoing training.

Our price, for your information, is broken down as follows.

The job allowance is for a two day install, first day to drain down, remove existing and fit new. The second day is to fill the system up, hot flush the system refill commission and test.

Boiler cost .........................£508.69
Consumables .....................£160.00 (fittings,pipe,cement,chemicals)
Timer, 2 x stats ..................£100.00
Labour & business overheads £768.00

Total cost...........................£1,536.69
VAT @20%........................£307.34

Total sum payable..............£1,844.00

You have been offered this highly competitive price only due to you being a valued customer of many years. A new unknown caller would have been sent a quote for a significantly higher figure.

When shopping around, may I recommend that you choose your boiler carefully. We only fit and recommend boilers made by manufacturers who have an excellent back up system if you need it. Companies like Worcester & Baxi that employ their own engineers if you should develop a fault when under warranty.

You cant win.
I had one the other day swearing blind he could get a baxi platinum 28 supplied and fully installed for £1200.
I said go for it....

I am incredibly loyal guy to my customers, if I had a reply like that , I would sack them on the spot !!!

Love the implication that it's a straight £900 a day!!

People expect boilers fitted at £150 a day and TBH their are plenty of people throwing them in for that undercutting everyone but they think they are clever and good luck to them it should be a marriage made in heaven.

I like it when customers self select like that up front, its when they slip through the net and argue the toss when the job is done that gets my goat.

After 15yrs of good service customers should really know when to keep schtum, just say sorry bud I can't afford it.

You will easily find some one cheaper , you will struggle to find anyone to do it better. #iminthetop1%sofcuku.

Sorry forgot to say you made a massive mistake mrsTP, I don't know if I read it wrong but I'm sure you listed Worcester as quality? [emoji21][emoji21][emoji21]

Google strikes again, every man and his dog checking prices and making assumptions that they're being ripped off, I wouldn't have dignified it with a reply. Anyone questions my integrity is finished.
I quoted a boiler this week for a guy who's son is a plumber but not Gas. Got a message last night saying we can rip out the tanks, cylinder, pipework. We only want you to fit the boiler.

Don't worry, time to start doing something else, Loads of cheep Government funded Syrian plumbers on there way

Hi all. Hope you have all been keeping well. A while back I decided I only wanted to fit one brand of boiler and decided on Viessmann due to space for servicing and changing parts if ever needing to. I am finding my decision rather hard due to the different clearances on flue runs and cupboards...

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as...
