How do u personally drain and remove a rad with out makeing any mess on the customers lovely white carpet.

I I got a lovely modified flexi bucket

Roll and stroll, dustsheets, and my mrs best towels from the airing cupboard.

Rubble sack and towels every time! Once the rad is drained and off the wall, hose on either valve and drain off.

Depends on the customer if you know they are a nightmare then it is down to them to get the carpet fitters out to remove carpet from area being worked on or no play !

Have ha seen them floor protection matts I think tool station do them, got a slit for the pipe. It's catching the water that's the fun bit, even more on a sealed system hahahaha.

Two layers of decent plastic on the floor and rolled onto the wall with some rugs on top. The same is under wet hoover. It’s better be safe than sorry.

Polythene backed dust sheet and towel under rad valves. once rad is drained, if there is play on the pipe I pull it away slightly and put a compression cap on the valve tail. Sometimes the lockshield valve tail is bigger so i cap the other end and always keep the lockshield end higher when carrying.

Dust sheets are fine until you lift rad and black sludge sprays on carpet 5 miles away from where your working, you know the only place you haven't put a dust sheet or black stuff goes through the sheet,

wet vac is good for smaller rads as long as they are small!!

Usually drain whole system for me if cream carpets, if wooden flooring or vinyl then dust sheets and wet vac!!

Plastic bags and towels. Try to roll back carpet it ye can. Usually put old pair of valves on rad being removed when carrying it out just incase ye get a splash of the black stuff from rad age carrying it out. Ah and make sure the valves ye attach are closed

Make sure the customer isn't looking, hold breath, snatch valves and cover with fingers, open door with boot and fall outside before anyone sees, empty contents over prize flowers and demand payment as soon as the van engine is running!

A clause on your paper work stating any cream or white carpets not removed you wont be liable for although you'll do your best to protect it

Pull the carpet back a bit and shove an old towel behind it to hold it. Loosen nuts hold ends with your thumbs and carry it out full.
I refuse to use a hoover on a pipe. Its just not natural

Depends what sort of customers and their carpets I guess ?
Same with floors down to the chippy or joiner when working in decent houses .
As my old plumber always said I do pipes pal that block of wood you want as a ground for the rad do I look like I do wood ?

I thought removing and re-laying carpets was just a daily part of our job lol,,,,, even got my faithfull knee kicker lol

Ill lift a carpet and lay it down and get my bolster or wood chisel to push it down against the skirt to make it look neat, but I don't think I've ever got the kicker out

dust sheets, use wet vac to empty rad, and off you go, dont trip with a full wet vac, ruins the carpet

How the hell do I get my messages . Every time I get an email I click on it but cant see my messages

Many years ago a lad I did my apprenticeship with thought he had a great idea when removing a bedroom radiator.

He opened the window and emptied the remaining water/sludge out if the rad by resting it in the opening and tipping it out !!

Unfortunately the house was pebbledashed and painted white, did make a fecking mess down the front of the house.

Needless to say Bgas paid to have the front of the house repainted.
