I got a customer with a heat slave 18/25 with the down firing rdb 2.2, It started making a clicking noise in the pre ignition phase, it will click about 3 times then fire.

What do you guys rekon; coil on the way out?

I would firstly check the photocell is clean, if you haven't already. Highly likely that is the problem, but the nozzle would need to be clean and okay and oil/air set up properly or perhaps the burner would fail to cold start easily.
Although I wouldn't rule out control box fault, I would think the oil pump could have a fault and slipping.
In short look for these until you find which is faulty, - (1) clean the cell, (2) flame okay? (3) oil pump. If all else fails then control box has a slim chance of being faulty
Coil would not be faulty as it has to work continuously and it obvious must be working if burner eventually fires and keeps going.
The solenoid valve the coil operates however, on the oil pump could stick a bit.

I had one the other week that was giving all the indications of a photocell issue. Turned out to be a dead moth inside the burner obscuring the photocell. .......

Getting mice in a few of them B9 Bentone burners. The air door is too inviting to a mouse obviously.
I think the most weird one was a bat inside the blast tube of a Riello burner. It must have come down the flue and into the burner.
I still rememember cleaning the base of a boiler and suddenly the 'sulphur' started moving! Scared me as it didn't seem possible. It also was a bat, alive. Boiler hadn't been working or it would have been KFC ed

I'd be looking at combustion settings first. Over aired?

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Hi, I seemed to have a blockage in kitchen sink. A plumber came and cleared all the pipework that is visible inside my home (there was debris and pebbles!) We saw that the pipe that takes water down the gutter was visibly full to the top. He said he will return with a coil to push through...
