Hi, just a quick one (I hope).
Could a non return valve placed on the cold feed from the header tank cause pumping over from the vent pipe when the central heating circulating pump is on?
Thanks, Pat
Hi - the open vent is constantly dripping into the small header. I can not see a pressure gauge in the system and suspect the following:
a. the coil in the immersion tank has split
b. the PRV is faulty
c. the big guy upstairs has it in for me
Any thoughts or resolves would be muchly...

I have an Ideal Icos HE15 open vent boiler which is 8 years old.
Recently, the boiler keeps cutting out only a few minutes after firing, meaning the radiators only get warm, nowhere near hot. Just before it cuts out, hot water "spurts" a few times into the header tank. Two or three minutes...
Hello my first post strange problem when central heating switches on the vent pipe from header tank starts to vibrate the pipe is not moving but when you put a hand around it you can feel vibration been running well for 5 years this has just started last few weeks.had plumbers out and also gas...
I have a header tank at ceiling height on the first floor and we want to put rads on the 2nd floor above the header. - It would be v. difficult to raise the header tank
Is there any reason why you can't put an expansion vessel in the same place as the existing header tank, so it replaces...

Ok so was at a job yesterday, customer said boiling water had been discharging from his header tank for the past 4 months. I took a look, got everything up and running, stayed for a good half hour everything seemed to be working perfectly and just as I was about to leave boom the pump started to...

I was about to drain the heating system and noticed a brown skin floating on the top of the water in the header tank. there is also some white 'salt like' colouring. I assume this 'scum' is a sort of bacteria that needs to be removed before draining the system. Can anyone advise what it is please?
This has happened on and off for years. It only happens sometimes after I use the shower which has a direct cold water gravity feed to power shower pump from the header tank. Running hot and cold taps for short time usually stops the overflow and normality is resumed. but its a pain that it...

Hi All,
I've popped over from the electricians forum for some advice. I was at a house today to install the wiring for a shower pump that the customer was installing, customer asks me if I had a hole cutter he could borrow to drill a hole in the header tank for his cold feed. When I looked at...
Need some help with this one. Have an old 3 pipe system in a pub Which fills the header tank via its cold fill and subsiquently overflows. The cylinder is 2 years old as it was replaced due to to splitting its also had the cf and ov moved to correct location behind pump. It's also had a pump and...
Was called to a job today. Customer said there was a banging sound in the loft. Went up to investigate and noticed the open vent was pumping over boiling hot water. it was like a team room up there. Had a look in the cylinder noticed the pump speed was on 3 so turned it down to 2 had another...

Late evening just filling bath until the hot water stopped. Cold water still running with loads of pressure. Quickly in to the garage to collect the ladders. Once in to the loft the header tank is empty, with only a small tickly/sprinkle coming out of the ball cock area. Any ideas?
Had my C Heating system service today ( British gas ). My C Heating is a gravity system, I have just switched my heating on and was getting water from the header tank over flow, it was ok before the service, what would have cause this to happen, the pump is on setting 2,and the boiler thermostat...

Hi all,
I'm doing some changes to my central heating system which involve moving two rad tails and have discovered that I cannot drain the system.
All the rads are turned off to minimise the water loss but when I opened the drain valve nothing comes out (well just a trickle).
I checked for...

Hi,
A neighbour has asked me to look at a radiator that is cold in the middle. I assume this is a build up of sludge so was going to try draining the system and removing radiator to try and blast through with a hose or add some cleaner. When looking in the loft there is only one header tank...

I have two radiators connected, one 3meters long x 300mmx300mm and the other 2.5 meters long x 250mmx250mm. When the pump switches on it sucks a liitle water from the header tank and...
