flues
A flue is a duct, pipe, or opening in a chimney for conveying exhaust gases from a fireplace, furnace, water heater, boiler, or generator to the outdoors. Historically the term flue meant the chimney itself. In the United States, they are also known as vents for boilers and as breeching for water heaters and modern furnaces. They usually operate by buoyancy, also known as the stack effect, or the combustion products may be 'induced' via a blower. As combustion products contain carbon monoxide and other dangerous compounds, proper 'draft', and admission of replacement air is imperative. Building codes, and other standards, regulate their materials, design, and installation.
I have 2 flues 700mm apart facing each other one of the flues as a plume management kit on it but the other has not as this boiler without the plume kit on it is 13 years old i am wanting to replace it with a new boiler i could fit a plume management kit on the new boiler which would take it...
Are the vertical terminals for glow worm and Vaillant the same / interchangeable?
Does using one brand with the other constitute a breach of Mi's or regs?
How many of you when you install these boilers use that fancy rotating bit at the end of the flue to direct the plumage away?Priced a boiler up other week and drove past it tonight to see they have been unfortunate enough to be bribed into a new worcester.
The installer had turned the exhaust...
Just had call from a customer who's had a new gas supply, the carriers have been in to re commission the boiler.
And aparantly the flue has to be sealed internally and externally! Anyone heard of this, or is it bunkum?
Its a combi, horizontal flue.
I have never done any work on an appliance with an asbestos flue. I know very little about them. Just recently we've been going to an estate where we've come across asbestos flues which are still in use for the gas fire.
Now I went to one today and it had been classified as ID. The only...
Hi all,
As you all probably know by now, I'm doing my gas portfolio and had a quick question. I understand the difference between them but why would you not just use a standard flue the whole time??
Probably one for MissPlumb this :)

It's no wonder people get flues wrong at times just looked at vailant flue guide and it shows dimension p 600 from another terminal and pic shows 600 from chimney - a chimney is open flue so should be 1200 away seen 6 council houses done to 600 mm this wk
Hi All
Am I right in thinking that you now can't install any flues if they go thought any other property?, architect what's to flue ground floor flat up though 1st floor and out roof.
Cheers in advance
Probably a stupid question but I've never really come across any vertex flues. I know they are technically open flued and a spilage/flue flow test is required. Where would you do the spillage test? I can't see in the MI's for where to do it?

Got myself in a pickle, did a safety check on a brand new Worcester combi with a vertical flue going up through a small concealed loft space. No access hatches, completed the rest of the test and AR'd it informing the letting agent that they need to put in access hatches. I turned the boiler...

I've been asked to do a gas cert on this property with this situation and the estate agent told me that another gas engineer had been out previously but was unhelpful. I went to have a quick look tonight so i could see what we are dealing with. the flue itself is 250mm away from the openable...
