Hi everyone,

First time poster, go easy on me!

My toilet cistern seems to be overfilling. It's a narrow plastic cistern (not important I imagine) and thankfully the overflow pipe is doing its job. The floating mechanism is working in that it's moving up and down, though it has a lot of limescale on it. In my attempt to make sure it was moving freely and was free from big lumps of scale, the overfilling seems to be happening even quicker than before. The current cistern was put in at a cost of £400 to my elderly partner. I believe a complete replacement was made instead of the flush mechanism being replaced. But I wasn't around at the time. So, I'm stuck with this which I have a horrid feeling isn't standard. I'd be happy to buy a new mechanism and install it, but not sure what size to look for.

Is this what is required? Has anyone a solution that maybe wouldn't require a new mechanism?

I've attached some photos of the current system in case it helps. (In case you notice some odd plumbing outside the cistern - there is an electric bidet attachment so the mains water is split into two. This has been in place for exactly a year without any problems. I don't believe the current problem is related to the bidet) I would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks

It’ll likely be the washer, but that’s not a valve I’ve seen before. Unless anyone else knows the make and model, it’s easy enough to replace - side entry float valve.

Thank you both for your input. And RayW, wow that's exactly the model! I think you've both hit the nail on the head as there was a drip coming from around that area until I started testing it. The drip at the font of that washer section has visibly gone since, but the overflow is worse so perhaps it's just lest visible than before.

A new complete valve is £10 delivered, and the washer is a fiver delivered. I assume at this point you'd just suggest replacing the valve?

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as...

Hi all. Hope you have all been keeping well. A while back I decided I only wanted to fit one brand of boiler and decided on Viessmann due to space for servicing and changing parts if ever needing to. I am finding my decision rather hard due to the different clearances on flue runs and cupboards...

Hi all I'm hoping someone can shine a light on this for me Since our stop tap on the pavement has now been filled with sand for whatever reason, we are relying on our property fitted stopcock (this is outside on our garage wall) Unfortunately turning this to the closed position only reduces...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
