mechanism

In chemistry, a reaction mechanism is the step by step sequence of elementary reactions by which overall chemical change occurs.A chemical mechanism is a theoretical conjecture that tries to describe in detail what takes place at each stage of an overall chemical reaction. The detailed steps of a reaction are not observable in most cases. The conjectured mechanism is chosen because it is thermodynamically feasible, and has experimental support in isolated intermediates (see next section) or other quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the reaction. It also describes each reactive intermediate, activated complex, and transition state, and which bonds are broken (and in what order), and which bonds are formed (and in what order). A complete mechanism must also explain the reason for the reactants and catalyst used, the stereochemistry observed in reactants and products, all products formed and the amount of each.

The electron or arrow pushing method is often used in illustrating a reaction mechanism; for example, see the illustration of the mechanism for benzoin condensation in the following examples section.
A reaction mechanism must also account for the order in which molecules react. Often what appears to be a single-step conversion is in fact a multistep reaction.

Help getting access to the mechanism of this tap please.

Hi, can anyone advise regarding getting access to the working mechanism within this tap. It's leaking and I want to change the washer. There's no grub nut around the base and as can be seen there's no access via the top of the tap. I'm thinking that the top skirt will unscrew with the help of a...

    Replace cistern mechanism

Hi, we moved into a new house a while back and the main toilet has a large cistern and no dual flush capability. It gets used most of the time rather than the single ensuite we have so I was wondering if someone can recommend a kit to replace the lever with a two button arrangement or other...

Hi everyone, First time poster, go easy on me! My toilet cistern seems to be overfilling. It's a narrow plastic cistern (not important I imagine) and thankfully the overflow pipe is doing its job. The floating mechanism is working in that it's moving up and down, though it has a lot of...

Replacing lid on 2 button cistern - whole mechanism screws out

Had to take the lid off to replace the inlet diaphram, but now can't replace the lid without also messing up the two button mechanism. This is not a 'normal' two button cistern, where the buttons can be removed individually, with this one (make unknown) the whole dual button bit unscrews so you...

    Remote water valve mechanism

Hi, I recently have had a water softener installed in my property. Due to the house being a new build the engineer wasn't able to install a hard water tap in our kitchen (without the undertaking of huge, costly works). In the cupboard, there is a water valve that can be turned to switch the...

My WC has just developed a problem. It flushes OK but then the water keeps draining into the pan. The cistern is a concealed/built-in one. I lifted the cistern lid expecting to find a siphon but the arrangement is quite different. I would find it really helpful if someone could identify: 1)...

    Strange Valve?! No mechanism inside?

Hi guys, sparks here in peace! Had the plumbers round earlier to drop some gear off before they start fitting my underfloor heating this week and had a quick nose at the kit as I like to see what goes into something I've not seen before. Hi - hoping to get a quick bit of advice from someone re the inside of my toilet tank.
