I'm the maintenance supervisor for a housing provider.

I've been asked to clean the jets on a gas cooker because there are only 3 rings working.

My lads are maintenance guys and are not Gas Safe.

Do you have to be Gas Safe to do this work?

How can your lads prove the appliance is safe to use after they have a tamper with it?

youd have to remove or replace the jets to do this.

i would class that as "work"

how do you know the gas tap hasn't failed?

my view is you need an engineer.

if its gas and it is part of a cooker, boiler fire you have to be gsr or your flouting the law! would you know how to check burner output, gas rate the cooker on completion?

dont you hate it when you drop the nozzle and it rolls out of sight, down a hole etc etc

To clean those gas jets properly they need to be removed. This constitutes gas work and therefore appliance checks under GSIUR 26(9) AND GSIUR(3) apply.

You were right to check, and on the basis of the good advice you've had matey
