sink

A sink – also known by other names including sinker, washbowl, hand basin, wash basin, and simply basin – is a bowl-shaped plumbing fixture used for washing hands, dishwashing, and other purposes. Sinks have taps (faucets) that supply hot and cold water and may include a spray feature to be used for faster rinsing. They also include a drain to remove used water; this drain may itself include a strainer and/or shut-off device and an overflow-prevention device. Sinks may also have an integrated soap dispenser. Many sinks, especially in kitchens, are installed adjacent to or inside a counter.
When a sink becomes clogged, a person will often resort to using a chemical drain cleaner or a plunger, though most professional plumbers will remove the clog with a drain auger (often called a "plumber's snake").

    New sink waste

Am trying to get my head around plumbing in my new 1.5 kitchen sink. The waste arrangement looks complicated, to my mind at least. Have attached photos to show how the pipework looks connected up as per instructions. I am not sure how one is supposed to do this as the pipework extends some 170mm...

Hello, I've got a thermostatic shower valve feeding a shower head in the ceiling of my bathroom. The bathroom is in my loft, so 3rd floor. I have a system boiler setup on the ground floor. The shower was running stone-cold whatever the settings so I fitted a new cartridge but even now at it's...

Can't find correct replacement kitchen sink waste basket/plug.

Our kitchen sink waste basket plug is broken and I can find one that looks the same type anywhere. I've attached pictures of the half sink plug for illustration, as it's complete and works the same way. This plug twists and drops to make a seal, or pulls up and turns slightly to stay in drain...

    Sink Drain Gurgling

I have installed a new wash basin in a bathroom using (mostly) the original drain plumbing. Changing cartridge - Deva Metropolis sink mixer tap

Hi all, Happy New Year. It was suggested in another thread that turning the handles on this tap type (Deva Metropolis MET172 monobloc sink mixer tap) would allow me to remove the handle and change the cartridge. It's not budging, even after some WD40. Any other thoughts, or do I just...

Kitchen sink plug won't stay open!

Hi everyone, my kitchen sink plug won't stay open! It’s really frustrating. It’s held up by a little plastic hoop around the shaft, and friction is supposed to stop it closing. But it’s too easy to close – just running water will close it, and I have to hold it open all the time I want to empty...
