Before Present (BP) years, or "years before present" is a time scale used mainly in archaeology, geology and other scientific disciplines to specify when events occurred before the origin of practical radiocarbon dating in the 1950s. Because the "present" time changes, standard practice is to use 1 January 1950 as the commencement date (epoch) of the age scale. The abbreviation "BP" has been interpreted retrospectively as "Before Physics", which refers to the time before nuclear weapons testing artificially altered the proportion of the carbon isotopes in the atmosphere, making carbon dating after that time likely to be unreliable. In a convention that is not always observed, many sources restrict the use of BP dates to those produced with radiocarbon dating; the alternative notation RCYBP is explicitly Radio Carbon Years Before Present.
Hi,
Upstairs flat changed their boiler - some of their old fittings couldn't stand the pressure, big hole in our ceiling. Their plumber put in a temporary fix as they were unable to solder. Any thoughts on whether what they've done is suitable as a long term fix? The ceiling is not yet back...

Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago asking for advice about my ideal standard concealed dual flush plate toilet which was leaking slowly into the toilet pan.
The slow leak has speeded up and is now more like a tap being on.
The problem is we're due to go away for a few days and I'm wondering if...
In passing, it was mentioned that when the system's drained down, it would benefit it if I took the rads off and sort of jiggle them round and run a garden hose to help clear them through before a flush was done but, and unless I'm not understanding how a flush works, shouldn't the chemicals and...
Hi Chaps
I have a leaky pipe in my boiler, so keep losing pressure on the central heating loop. The 22mm pipe has a bend in it so I was wondering if I could replace it with a braided hose but after buying one with 22mm speedfit connectors at each end I noticed that the actual internal hose was...
Hi,
My family have just moved back in from a house renovation just before the Easter bank holiday. When I turned on the tap in the kitchen to wash up and it takes over 3 mins before the water was hot enough to wash up. I had a large kitchen sink put in and I managed to fill that up with cold...

Since my in-laws boiler was replaced they have been having a number of issues, such as poor radiator temp and rads on with hw, to name a couple. The company has been out multiple 6+ times and tbh sounds like they are clutching at straws, especially as it worked before the replacement and now...
Hi all,
As per title, what's the procedure for flushng newly installed central heating and cold feed. Is a powerflush machine needed? Does the boiler need to be part of the flushing? Another Gsr said the just filling up the the system for central heating then draining is enough and for...
Just had one of my makita 18v batteries die on me. Had it plugged into makita torch and it discharged untill light went out so maybe that has something to do with it. Put it on charge and it started flashing red and green.
Any way to repair them or is it a goner?
I only ask because I sold one a few yrs back on ebay and it was paid for, but the buyer never actually got in touch to arrange collection
I did contact him about 2 months later asking if he was, indeed, still alive and he replied " the reports of my death were greatly exaggerated" (that was his...
My first job in the morning is a noisy boiler that the customer is unable to reset.
I do not know which boiler, I don't even know if it's a combi or not.
Anyway armed with this limited info what would you be thinking to check before you arrive?
I'm thinking seized /slow running pump or blockage.
I have a quote from a local plumber who we have used before and no complaints.
The quote is for the replacement of our ancient outdoor wall hung boiler.
He is proposing to fit a Grant Vortex Eco 16/21 and a Adey 22 or Mag 1 Magnaclean Filter.
As I am asking this question you can tell I have no...
Hi all,
I'm seeking for help with some multiple faults with my boiler and central heating.
I got a Baxi 2 Megaflo 28 Compact GA boiler and it suddenly stopped supplying hot water about two days ago (no big issues before except re-pressuring). I tried to reboot it however it lost power...
I am working on a alpha cd28c combi, i recently changed the diverter valve as the tennant had very little hot water and when the hot water tap was running the boiler would stay on telling me its not a blockage in plate heat exchanger and not overheating. it was send the hot water down the...
After changing some rad valves today I've had a nightmare airlock on the central heating. I've put it down to the position of the vent and cold feed as when the heating on the air has nowhere to go. I've drawn a diagram of the setup what do you think?

hello, I need help getting shower waste into horizontal svp. (outside of house)
The 50mm shower waste (red circle) exits the building above the horizontal svp pipe (blue). This 'red' shower waste has already traveled 2.3m at the correct fall before it exits the building.
Which option of pipe...

Just seen a news item ........
Man ordered to give the police 24hrs notice before having sex or planning too or he faces 5yrs inside!
They would be lucky to get 24 minutes notice from me.
Good evening, you fine people.
I have just been on a call where I found that the pump is constantly pumping over into the header tank and I can't come up with a solution at the moment so I wondered if any of you might have an idea or two :)
Basically, the boiler is downstairs and the unvented...
