before

Before Present (BP) years, or "years before present" is a time scale used mainly in archaeology, geology and other scientific disciplines to specify when events occurred before the origin of practical radiocarbon dating in the 1950s. Because the "present" time changes, standard practice is to use 1 January 1950 as the commencement date (epoch) of the age scale. The abbreviation "BP" has been interpreted retrospectively as "Before Physics", which refers to the time before nuclear weapons testing artificially altered the proportion of the carbon isotopes in the atmosphere, making carbon dating after that time likely to be unreliable. In a convention that is not always observed, many sources restrict the use of BP dates to those produced with radiocarbon dating; the alternative notation RCYBP is explicitly Radio Carbon Years Before Present.

    Isolation valves before the radiator

Hello. Can anyone tell me what kind of isolation valves to put before the radiator pipes (about 2 meters away) inlet & outlet . The reason for this is I want later on to put another small radiator on the hall way and don't want to take all water out. Thanks

Water manifold installed and plumber disappeared, has anyone seen a manifold like this before?

I received a call from a customer who has asked me to take a look at works carried out by a plumber. He has installed UFH to the entire ground floor of this large property. The floor is screeded and finished, there are a few loops that haven't been connected to his lovely manifold but I'm given...

This is why the forum was quiet before.....

Just watching the stats of users online right now. Seeing what the percentage of devices being used is. And it's nearly all mobile and tablet. So the old style just wasn't working for those guys. Now all of those (and half are mobile!) can browse the forum using a really neat design that...

Unusual 15mm fitting for WC. Anyone seen this before?

I have received this photo of a fitting for a friend's WC that heats the seat (essential, of course :censored:). There is a leak just above the isolation-valve on the t-piece. Will there just be some sort of washer or O-ring that will require replacement? Thanks for any comment but I have not...

Powermax 1400 boiler - burner not always kicking in

Apologies for the long post but I'm hoping to get a bit of advice. Last week a plumber came in to replace a bathroom rad with a heated towel rack and remove a rad from downstairs in the hallway. The work seemed fine and our CH and hot water both came on as programmed that night. However the...

Maximum deviation from horizontal before air lock?

In a pumped radiator circuit, in long horizontal-ish stretches of pipework (say 15mm dia), what's the maximum typical rise/fall before air pockets become persistent (aren't moved on by pumped flow) and cause noise/gurgling, and before air locks prevent flow? Apologies if this is a common query...

    Heated Towel Rails

Good morning and hello. I wonder if anyone can assist. For many years our heated towel rails have been running when either the CH or HW is running, so when the CH is off the towel rail will get warm, and similarly when the HW is off the towel rail still gets warm. Now having had some work done...

Help. Should there be a vent pipe after the boiler and before the pump.

I think my heating system is sucking air in through vent pipe. My heating system is as follows, boiler, pump, motorised valves then I think the vent pipe is after these. Does this sound wrong. I've taken a picture but Iam having trouble uploading it. Thanks
