Sounds like a good alternative to draining the tank while I replace teh gate but when I do the calcs there's only about half a pound of water pressure keeping the thing in. I don't know whether I am happy with that when there's 50 gallons of water in it ready to escape. I would be happier if there were some kind of spring loaded contraption that I could put between the bung and the other side of the tank to improve its security.

Anyone know of such a device? Home made even?

Thanks

Have a look at jet swet

Now you're talking. Nice bit of kit. A bit pricey though. Nevertheless it has given me an idea.

True but easier enough design to fab up :D

Bung in the tank had always worked for me, if itā€™s open vent central heating you are dealing with, then I use a speedfit stopend on the vent pipe in preference to a bung ( as it canā€™t fall off). Although once you start to drain down the vacuum which forms helps to hold the bung anyway.
Remember to only have one open joint/ cut pipe at a time - otherwise you lose the vacuum and you are in big trouble!

Bought a couple of these. Arrived today. They look ok. Like they will do the job. Will I have the bottle to rely on the 22 mm? That's another matter entirely. I'll probably fit the 22 after I've drained the tank!!! šŸ˜‚

Some tank fittings have internal "splines" for a an Allen key or something to stop rotation while fitting it and attaching pipes. Rubber bung no use there.
I changed a valve last year. Made a mushroom shaped thing and put PlumbersMait on the flange. Turned a tap on slightly, reached into the tank and held in in place as the water in the pipe drained away so the tank pressure held it on. Worked no prob.

Used the old spud and carrot before got a bung kit. šŸ˜„
Mixed results depending on system design but saved hrs of work refilling and bleeding a large system.
Make sure you close pump valves and any other AAV that might be fitted on system & remember you will loose a litre of so before the water hold.
Always have everything ready in case vacuum lets go anyway.
Never rely on it 100%

Used this method in dozens of times & not had any major mishaps.

Yep, used a spud and carrot. Normally I have a 22 speed fit cap for the vent and black rubber bung. But for some reason I'd taken them out the van. 'Borrowed' a spud and a carrot. Worked a treat.

He said 50 gallons so I assume it's the cold water storage tank he's talking about.

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
