Hi,

I am a DIYer that is stuck! I would like to fit a floor level shower grate in a wooden floor wet room. I have 2 options for the outflow:

1. Into the horizontal 110mm waste. I would use a boss into the side of the pipe. My concern is that the toilet waste will be higher than the shower floor. Will the waste back up into the shower when the loo is flushed?

2. A long an convoluted run of 40mm under the bedroom floor, out of an external wall and into an external drain.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Cheers,

Ben

Thanks.

It will be ok to fit it to the 110mm soil pipe. if the shower grate has not got a built in trap though you will need to install an inline trap between the 110mm & the grate. fyi a 40mm waste pipe should not be run for more than 4m without upgrading it to 50mm. and I doubt you would be able to get a sufficient fall on such a long run anyway. so that option is probably no good to you anyway.

Thanks Darren, there is a trap built in. So even though a loo will be connected to the 110mm soil "above" the shower waste level there won't be any back flow? Cheers.

The only time raw sewerage would come up through the shower grate would be if you were unlucky enough to have a main blockage in the underground drains or inspection chamber. Through normal use there will not be an issue with back flow unless you intend to connect to the underside of the 110mm.
Thanks Darren, that's great. I have a week to finish the bathroom before my wife returns from an overseas trip and I've already wasted 2 days worrying about this!

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
