just for my own interest this.

I've always jointed screwed iron on heating systems with hemp and paste (boss white, green, jet blue, blah blah) but I worked with a guy recently that was running hemp onto the thread as normal but then adding a couple of wraps of PTFE, no paste.
I've never come across this before, anyone been taught to do it this way ?

Hi Jay

Never seen it done this way before, dont use hemp anymore we just use locktite 55.

yea I use 55 for smaller stuff but I had to go and change a load of leaking fittings that had been done like this and they were 2" so I used hemp and paste.

It is ch

And that's a new one on me maybe he doesn't like boss white

Pretty sure its good for upto 4" pipe work so maybe it wasnt made in right the 1st time!

the fittings I changed were done with hemp and PTFE is what I meant.

Knew a guy who used to put immersion heating elements with a few twists of ptfe and boss white said he never had a problem getting them out next time round....regards Turnpin:)

No bud its one or the other i am with the others guys hemp and boss white or locktite 55 , only use ptfe for rad tails aav's thats it cheers kop

I have never come across this before. I don't personally like ptfe and more often then not use hemp and jointing compound as necessary.
