This toilet is 5 years old and has suddenly started to fill very slowly after using either button. Thought I would have a peek inside to see if I could replace the valve. However, the ceramic lid is not visibly fastened, it will move a cm horizontally but will not lift vertically at all! Definitely something inside is preventing this. I am not familiar with this type, whatever it is and I didn't see it installed at the time. I don't want to use brute force for obvious reasons and logic says that to get at the inside of the cistern, you would have to drain, disconnect the water inlet and unscrew the cistern from the toilet bowl.

I'm a first time poster, and would really appreciate any info on the system and the problem. Thank you in anticipation.

Unscrew the push button assembly or lever the push buttons out and undo the screw beneath.

Also consider calling a plumber before you break something which might cost you a lot more money to put right.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense! It still works so I'll leave it be!
Thanks Mountainman for your prompt reply.

Hello Gruman and welcome to the forum.

only use force when you already understand why there is a restriction.
as said unscrew the button, then replace the washer which will have a split in it
or call someone in

If at all unsure of something, it's always best to seek the services of a professional. Besides if anything went wrong you'd be covered by a guarantee, which you would not of course have if you tried to do the work yourself.

Welcome to the forum and please let us know how you get on.

Thank you all for viewing and your advice.

"If it works, don't fix it!" - Ahm an aged beleva!
The cistern refills, albeit slowly, a bit like my output. Will live with both for a while longer! Hopefully!

Thanks guys, spot on, I reckon. Though I haven't said it before, it is a B&Q toilet!
