You had someone do some gas work for you, at some 'negotiated' cheap price, and now you want to have them held accountable for the work.

There's more to this than what you're admitting to.

Take it up with the relevant authorities - gas safe and take it up with the tax office.

If it was me who did the work for you - I would ask for proof from you to prove I did the work.

How could you prove that?

Come clean with the situation and more help may be provided.

The price wasn't low because you now need to employ a legitimate Gas Safe plumber to inspect, and probably redo, the work.

This is why I never have and never will negotiate on price. All of my work goes through the tax man. So my price is my price no mater what. People like the engineer you use wind me up. If the price was not right in the first place it is always worth trying to find an engineer more in your price range that will still give you a receipt and still guarentee his or her work. I would be more careful in the future. Always make sure that anyone undertaking any gas work is qualified to do the work you want them to do before you agree for them to do it.

To all those who asked, yes, he is gas safe, I checked. But does being gas safe mean he's always going to hos job properly?
I'm not saying his job is not good - I was just wonderingh in the first place if a cert is needed as there is nothing to trace the job back to him if something goes wrong.
This is also more of a generic question about whether a cert is needed for this type of job, irrespective of who did it. But I think you answered that part already.

They don't need to supply you with a certificate. You will have to trust he has done the job correctly, just because it's a "cash job" don't mean they have done less of a job.
When you pay someone cash then you lose the paper trail as you surely would of known, you can't have the best of both worlds.
Any decent tradesperson will return to a problem, paper trail or not.

I use the digital manometer on my fga, it stores the test results and I give the printout to the customer, this has the instrument serial, calibration date plus date and time of the test. I ALWAYS carry out a let by and Tightness BEFORE breaking into the gas to make any alterations, then carry out another Tightness after the work is complete.
