I had a gas engineer move a gas pipe for me. He said no certificate was needed afterwards. Is that correct?
More generally, when does a certificate need to be issued when working on gas? It would be useful for the public to know what to expect...

We do not need to produce a certificate unless we are doing a gas safety inspection or It is a notifiable installation like a new boiler, or you have asked specifically for one. I personally always give a certificate for any gas works I do, and I suspect the majority of engineers will produce a certificate for the works. But a receipt describing the work undertaken will often suffice. As long as you have a receipt, it is proof that the work was carried out by a gas safe engineer.

Yep as above no requirement to give one but it's peace of mind

I just write the customer a receipt. This should be proof enough as long as it has the tightness test readings on it.

The price for the job was low because it was all in cash, if you see what I mean...

Is he gas safe and have you confirmed this by checking his reg no on gas safes website?
