Boiler guarantees?

Hi all
Apologies if this question has been asked loads of times. Basically I need to replace my "At Risk" combi boiler (Vokera 20-80 RS Turbo 22 years old!) - at some stage the modulator coil has been removed, without my knowledge, leading to the at risk status - the part is obsolete (unless you know different?) I am looking to replace the boiler at minimum cost and have a few short listed and wonder how good the guarantees are (how long you are kept waiting when you call customer services and how long it takes for engineer to arrive etc?) On my short list - Alpha 28CDC with either 5yrs guarantee (or 7yrs with premier pack), Viessmann with 5yrs guarantee, or Vaillant ecotec pro 28 with 2 years guarantee - I have read varying reports about the Alpha and high price of parts when guarantee is finished, but how good is their customer services? Is a good boiler with shorter guarantee better than average boiler with long guarantee? I have 3 bedroomed mid terraced house with 9 radiators - would a 24kw be big enough or do I want a 28kw? I live alone btw.

Of those three I would go for the Vaillant.

i tend to go for vaillant or worester bosch cdi range two good manufactures worth looking at

no its not the cheapest but a good boiler in my mind

ohh yessssssssssssss you get for what you paid really ,spend £500 on boiler ferolli or ariston then will cost double in long run

also with these b n q boilers you find parts on them are a nightmare to get and the boiler will discontinue within 4-5 years atleast with worcester you know your getting the parts!

Viessmann 100 Vitodens 30kw Combi boiler, gets my vote.

I personally wouldn't install a boiler without a 5 year warranty..so Viessmann for me too..but saying that..on the cheaper side I've be installing Ideal Logic + and Ariston Genus HE (won "Which? Best Buy 2008 award") both boilers seem to be ok and come with full 5 yr parts and labour.

Mmmm there are so many differing views about boilers its hard to decide amongst them - I've even seen indifferent reviews about Vallaint and WB. I'm looking for the "Toyota Corolla" of the boiler world, not the Merc or BMW, and definitely not the Fiat Punto (tho the Fiat Panda might be worth a look at and maybe even the Rover?)

Spend the extra money on a decent boiler.

How about Intergas? 10 years on the Hex, 2 years on the parts and labour last time I checked maybe more now, plus the advantage of having very few parts to go wrong.

Other than that I would probably plump for the Viessman

Am I right in thinking that all boilers now have digital controls and display error codes that completely shut the boiler down at the slightest fault? Are there any Sedbuk A models with older style manual controls that don't just shut down like this? (to use the motor car analogy again, I remember the old days where any back street garage could service your Ford Escort but now you cant even change the points or anything without it going to the main agents and attached to a computer!) I don't really want all the fancy bells and whistles just want a boiler thats fairly reliable and easy to fix - has anyone any knowledge of the Procombi a28? (Its basically a Vokera Linea I believe?)

Pro combi's are made by the company that owns Vokera.Vokera take the Pro combi and improve it,then badge it as their own.Saying that,my procombi 100 is running fine after 2 years.The occasional 'energetic ignition',but works ok.Fault codes are fine if they tell you something,but wasn't it a Vaillant that had about 200 codes,a third of them meaning general electrical fault?
