Firstly, any tips in getting it all off?

Secondly, any tips to re apply it?

It's a bugger.

But getting good with my fugi!
 
Only way to do it well if the taps are close to the wall is to take the taps out imo.
Doing one tomorrow where the taps are about 10mm from the wall, I'll be filling the gap completely then neatening it up either side with the Fugi, will stick a pic on here if it looks good. So that means I probably won't be sticking a pic on here ;)

For behind tap I usually try a twisty angle nozel or use a straw off a expanding foam gun
Then use my finger
 
Bit of earth sleeve joined to the end of your silicone nozzle, to apply. Then smoth with fugi too, or finger.
 
On a bathroom install, i always silicone bath and basin first and then fit taps
 
I wouldnt have expected anything else from a leeds fan lol
