is there any specialist equipment i need to install or commision solar systems, ground source, air pumps etc, other than the usual plumbing gear?

A solar filler for pumping in glycol
As for heat pumps I'd say ask unguided

If you want to get into renewables I would do some research on the internet and trade mags, speak to manufacturers and suppliers arrange for some reps to come and see you and go on some free training courses. PTS are quite helpful on the renewable side, speak to there rep. Do you know any other plumbers in your area doing solar etc, have a word with them and see if they are busy you may get a chance of subbing to them for experience maybe. Search this forum for "MCS" and look at Mickw blog here Trade Only: Over-regulation is the Biggest Barrier to Renewable take-up. Have a read and maybe put your thoughts on there.

Cheers Gray,

The majority of heatpumps are delivered with all the refrigerant side precharged so no specialist tools needed. The majority of heat pumps use 28mm pipe for the flow and return so a 28mm bending machine is handy but not critical.

I still use a spring for 28mm, never got round to buying a bender other than 15/22 and I don't think I could ever find room in the van for one!

lol im not to fussed on hand benders nearly always use the big hilmore goes to 35mm
and a spring for 28mm lol no thanks better you than me mate:Mr-T:

I miss the tripod bending machine, used to enjoy bending 4m lengths of pipe to fit nicely where i wanted it :) but they are dear !! think I'll purchase one eventually though

I want to get into renewables, but its too much at the moment would love some experience on it though even if i was subbying

There was a company advertising on here a couple of weeks ago for solar installers in Glasgow. I will see if I can find the link
