multimeter
A multimeter is a measuring instrument that can measure multiple electrical properties. A typical multimeter can measure voltage, resistance, and current, in which case it is also known as a volt-ohm-milliammeter (VOM), as the unit is equipped with voltmeter, ammeter, and ohmmeter functionality. Some feature the measurement of additional properties such as temperature and volume.
Analog multimeters use a microammeter with a moving pointer to display readings. Digital multimeters (DMM, DVOM) have numeric displays and have made analog multimeters obsolete as they are cheaper, more precise, and more physically robust than analog multimeters.
Multimeters vary in size, features, and price. They can be portable handheld devices or highly-precise bench instruments. Cheap multimeters can cost under US$10, while laboratory-grade models with certified calibration can cost over US$5,000.
Hi there,
I've heard a lot about this Vichy VC97 Multimeter and it's incredible value. However, what I can't find is anyone who has actually used one on a 230V live AC circuit.
Has anyone out there used this multi-meter for such a job?
Thanks in advance
Mike :-)

Hi all

then place probes between live and earth terminals (in boiler)

I bought a multimeter online from Maplin. It works fine but when it comes to boiler fault finding I sometimes find it hard to push the testing points down the PCB connections as they are quite fat, especially on some of the newer boards which have really thin wires.
Can anyone recommend a brand...
What's best way to test flame señor current on a baxi duo tec he. Manual says current should be more than 0.5 ua. What's best way to connect multimeter???
Need to get a multimeter for when I'm doing any wiring on heating systems. Who here does their own wiring and what multimeter do you use?
Looking for something that will do everything I need it to but that is simple to use.
Thanks
Can anyone advise me how to do this? Strangely Ive not replaced one before (plenty of motors). I know the microfarads rating is on the side of it but, and please excuse the question....wth is a farad? I know you test it on resistance but whats the procedure please?
Fank ooo.
Hi all looking to get a multimeter for fault finding on boilers and anything els I can find to test can you recommend any what kind of price what functions do I need it to have any tips would be great thanks rob
Hi guys I've got a fluke meter, when I turn it on it the readings go up and down even without testing anything, do these meters have to be calibrated if so where would be the best place to send it and how much is it, many thanks frank.
Hi all just wondered if there is a course anyone recommends for using one, I'm useless when the tech guy says have you got continuity and I haven't got a clue how to do it, is it relatively easy? I've never been shown so any help appreciated for helping me be better with boiler breakdowns...
