In geometry, topology, and related branches of mathematics, a closed set is a set whose complement is an open set. In a topological space, a closed set can be defined as a set which contains all its limit points. In a complete metric space, a closed set is a set which is closed under the limit operation.
This should not be confused with a closed manifold.
Hi,
We live in a lower flat (one up/one down) and the mains water is delivered to both flats from a single on pavement stopcock. Our central heating system is fed from a tank above the boiler and I believe that this tank is fed from another tank in the upstairs flat's loft.
When running...
So heres the story, my own boiler was replaced a year ago. All 4 zone valves were replaced at my suggestion..... for reliability reasons (they were 20 years old) - Now the motor has conked out on one of the new ones in 15 months. So before some random stuff gets put in - I want a 20 year life...

I'm not sure why you have closed my thread, surely the idea of this forum is for an engineer to put a problem out there for others to help if possible. I see nothing wrong with my replies but you have seen fit to close the thread without explanation.
HI All,
Quick question, had problems with our central heating system, with some radiators not heating up properly.
Finally mapped it all out and found that hotel water come from the boiler and through the pump, then there are 3 options:
1) Branch off Through Central Heating control valve to the...

Hi all,
I have old style radiators, on one side is a plastic cap with a circular arrow on top and a +- sign (lock shield valve?). I can turn the cap which presumably opens or closes the valve to allow how water into the radiator. However, is the valve simply open or closed or is it variable...
I misunderstood the purpose of this forum, as I thought it was a general help and information forum rather than a Certified plumbers forum, which is what the answers received imply?
I have absolutely no intention of doing any boiler works (I don't trust myself to put the wheel back on the car...
Is there any reason there isn't a closed to public oil forum? Only reason I'm asking is I have a few questions regarding oil prices etc and don't really want to fill the arms up with them.
Is there any chance 1 could be set up like the commercial so arms members can gain access to it?

I went into Plumb Center late afternoon yesterday desperate for 3 rads after PTS let me down ( I ordered them a week previous and when I went in they hadn't even ordered them, I have a wasted day today now with no work). I tried to order some more at P C but they couldn't find my details and had...
Hi wondered if anyone can help me, have just changed the trv valves on my open vented heating system, have bled all the rads after refilling, now all the rads downstairs are cold, have turned off all the other rads to try and push heat to only the open rad , still wont get hot, pump seems to be...
My alpha cb28x is heating the radiators although set to HW only. I've tried turning the CH thermostat to zero but makes no difference. The hot water is working fine.
Can anybody give me an idea of what might be wrong and how much it will cost to fix?
Thanks.

I note that one of the internet videos showing how to install a pressure reducing valve also shows water hammer arrestors being installed to, e.g. washing machine supply outlets. Is this necessary or just a precautionary measure?
