went to job today,found gas meter box 3/4 full of water,half covering meter,no gas leaks,surely meters going to rust away,told landlord to get in touch with transco to relocate meter,new build estate,all sunken brown meter boxes in ground,opened a further 2 same thing,what a bad design.

you are right, i assume you cant fully inspect the meter as it is submerged, so you will have made it AR and asked for permission to turn off?
 
Very common problem, especially if a drain is leaking.

The TVI meter won't rust, it's plastic. If the water covers the pressure regulator, the breather will block and cause incorrect pressure. If this is the case or the pressure nipple cannot be used turn off and report to the national gas emergency service 0800 111999

If its just wet and smelly that's normal, be thankful its not your job to exchange it!
 
Think he means a meter on an IGT site which are set into semi concealed boxes and contain metal G4 meters with only the top half shown. The meter asset manager should be advised.
 
nah! b.p. seem to cope with it.

anyhow, gas leaks under water smell worst any way and are more detectable. thats what my missus says when i'm in the bath..
