What options have we got to spur hot/cold water and central heating from a main house combi system, approx 2 metres across a garden and into an outbuilding which will house a new habitable room and bathroom? Are there any products on the market which would provide sufficient insulation to the pipes as they run in a trench through the garden?

There are indeed. Get a trench shovel and a copy of the water regulations book and you should be fine. What are you doing with the waste water?

Was going to suggest the Uponor product. Never seen it in the flesh, but seems a good product.

2 meters away? Trench going to be a bit of fun for every one! Is there wall or roof u can fix a cable tray on? Use plastic as more forgiving, insulate with kingspan cool therm 1 layer 1/2 and then one 1 1/2 outside that . Air transfers heat less readily than ground so u would waste less heat. Probably most economical method.

Thanks chaps, will take a look at Uponor's offering. Are there any other manufacturers which have similar products (as a price comparison exercise)?

Iv used the uponor pipe a fair bit. It's not great compared to the competitions in regards to heat loss and usually has a big back order. Where are you based? I have loads of sub 3m off cuts.

I'd be going over ground in some insulated boxing. If it's really really cold you could always have heat trace linked to a frost stat.

Fit a 150mm wide cable tray, lag plastic pipes with kingspan cool therm , two layers of concentric insulation. Cable tie insulated pipes to tray. U could box as well and fill with vamiculite?

In the South East, I haven't measured the precise distance as of yet though. I take it you're in Devon?

I shall take a look at how practical some boxing will be. Otherwise a trench with plenty of kingspan lagging in a box may be a more cost effective option. Does anyone have a pricelist for the Uponor stuff and who stocks it?

id put it all in the ground as im guessing your digging up anyway for drains and electrics. use the pipe in pipe type method imo. independant heating/hot water may be a better option?? thermal store, underfloor heating and solar panels?
