hello everyone,

i have a set a facebook page and twitter account for a merchant i work in, i was wondering how much time tradesmen use social media,

to generate business, advertising, check out competition etc.

was looking at doing facebook deals, also daily/flash deals on twitter, i.e. one day only .....................

thanks

I just realised that the OP is talking about targeting tradesmen not using social media as a tradesman

In which case I will leave the replies on this to those who are tradesman.

Regards
Mike

I don't have facebook. I know loads of people swear by it, but I find it filled with self obsessed morons, either bragging about something or telling everybody how ill they are looking for sympathy.I think the work brought in by it wouldn't pay for my anger management.

post of the week !!

I've had one job off facebook, and that wasn't even through my business page. It was a friend of a friend. So I don't consider it as a valuable marketing tool, although that may be because I don't know how to use it effectively. I don't use Twitter but I get the impression it's like receiving text messages whenever someone tweets. Which would seriously wind me up!

ok thanks guys, the reason i ask is purely down to a marketing type of respect, the company i work for are a little bit behind in the social media stakes compared to others and a few branches have set up facebook pages to promote sales, offers etc, i mainly use a twitter account to promote daily deals, one off specials etc for selling plumbing products at our trade counter etc.

I never ever use facebook to look at adverts or anything else, it is simply a tool for socialising, not for buying or selling. Facebook also has the trouble that everyone wants everything for nothing. I have had several quotes from facebook but never heard anything back. You would be much better off being a sponsor of this site and contributing a lot and you will get a lot more business. however.
1. we already have a merchant, not sure on rules
2. why are you promoting a company when you don't own/manage it?

I do like bristan, ideal, fernox and magnaclean on fb and ocassonaly enter their competitions, but would never buy anything as FB is me time not work time!!!

the one job i got off facebook generated a tenner as it wasnt leaking and she lived at the bottom of my road, plus I was feeling kind.

ok thanks, the reason i do a lot of the social media for the branch i work in is cause i'm the assitant manager and trying to keep up with a lot of the competition in the area, and just trying to gauge what a lot of tradesmen use etc. the company i work for are launching this month there online buying similar to PC.
plus i mainly use it to sell off old stock and daily deals on twitter anyhow, but facebook is mainly to promote the branch and information on bathroom designs and heating designs etc.

My experience of Facebook and business is that you end up talking to yourself a lot. You can waste hours on posts, offers and pictures that barely anyone will be interested in looking at.

People would rather watch a video of someone falling off a ladder or look at a picture of a cat with a pine cone balanced on its head than your deal of the week.
