hi all,

I purchased a new Salus RT500 wired programmable room thermostat. It replaces a Drayton RTS1 electronic room thermostat.

The RT500 works just fine but we've noticed when it switches on and off, the heavy sounding click is significantly louder than the RTS1 or any other mechanical room thermostat we've previously used. Fortunately, it isn't located in the sitting room otherwise it would drive us crazy. I am wondering if it is faulty?

Is anyone familiar with both thermostats and can comment ?

I understand a lot of battery powered room thermostats use 'latching relays' so they don't drain the battery.

I notice the battery powered Honeywell DT90E is criticized for being noisy too.

The RTS1 seems to use a conventional relay. Even our Drayton LP241 programmer is not as noisy as the RT500.

Tnx in advance.

if its working then whats the problem, surely an occassional click isnt anything to get worried about?
