I have been asked to pressure test and cap of 12metres of 63mm yellow gas pipe that is in a trench. Nothing is connected to either end.

Pressure testing to 10 bar should be fine hey?

I see in this table it is below 100mb so MOP x 2.5

You need to find out the Mains pressure before the Governor that controls your installation pressure. Cadent will tell you what the supply pressure is in that area. If you get that, I can look in IGE/UP/1 and tell you the pressure you need.

Which ever is greater so mop might be 21mbar so 52mbar test

But mip could be 75 mbar so 82 mbar test

So mip is your testing pressure

I have talked to 4 people now and they don't know any figures just that the pressure in the mains gas pipe in the road is low pressure. Very frustrating

;D welcome to the world of trying to get info out of the networks

G/u65 meter defo commercial

There you go mip 75 mbar

Mop 23

So test would be 82.3 so 83mbar so you could test the mdpe at 100 mbar

Thanks for the calculations. As I don't have a gauge that does 100mb, I could do this as you suggested in the 1st place to 1 bar as it is only a soundness test after all. But, as you say it is commercial so should I avoid.

Well if one thing that comes out of this I have learnt a bit about cost of fittings for this size pipe and strength testing.

Thank you all

Upto you as it's not connected you could say your only testing the pipe for defective not carrying gas

Don't have one

Got a dial gauge eg pressure and an anton 140

Bes do a 100 mbar gauge
