Discuss Heat storage tank only? in the UK Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice area at PlumbersForums.net
I have got a 3 port valve and the hot water cylinder is fed by the cold storage tank so I would have thought if the setting for the boiler is on heat water only with the central heating switched of it would be okay?If you're on S plan (2x 2 port valves) you need to keep the pipework filled but rads can be removed. Y plan (3 way valve) you would need to remove the rads and put in at least one link between 2 fully open rad valves.
You may struggle with tons of air in the system as there won't be rads to catch it, you would be better doing 1 rad at a time if decorating or if you're replacing them do it in a couple of days and drain the lot. Use the immersion heater in the mean time. Don't leave it drained for more than a few days
