I have been approached by a Dental Lab that would like a permanent gas supply for their Bunson burner. Not really clear on what the regulations etc are for this is it something I am allowed to do? It's a domestic size installation with just a combi boiler supplying the Lab and Dentist currently. Any help on this or where is best to look for more information on this would be appreciated!

( I am GSR just short of 10 posts to be able to apply)

Get onto gas safe.

schools where i have worked have had to have proving units fitted for bunsons.

As Killy Bing says, science classrooms in schools have the gas supply interlocked with a proving unit and solenoid.

Firewatch are the common ones I've seen.

I think gas safe will likely post you over to local building control tbh

as a Bunsen burner is pretty much an open ended pipe.

Isn't quite the everyday thing!

its not a classroom its a dental lab

i would get clarification from gas safe but at 1.25 kw's what you going to need a solenoid ??

Thanks guys, I am waiting on a response from Gas Safe will let you know what they say. Been looking at the proving systems for example the Intelligas 100P Gas Proving System. (Can't post a link) seems it will be a very expensive solution though!

Need an isolator as a minimum. Lever type at eye height. Clearly labeled.

Check out the IGE doc's. You will require a separate isolation (ECV) with proofing device.

Proofing device is a flare stack ?
No not a flare stack. A device which checks there is pressure in the downstream pipe before allowing the gas to be turned on. Used in school labs, just in case the pupils think it would be a hoot to turn the Bunsen Burners on when the main lab gas valve is off and leave it like that. The master comes in turns the gas on and there is gas hissing everywhere. The proofing system stops this happening.
