I have an Elson Coral E Hot water tank in my all-electric flat. I've had it for about 2 and a half years without any problems, however recently I have noticed that the hot water pressure is not as much as it used to be and the temperature I get from the hot taps is reduced.

I have tried increasing the temperature via the mixing valve (took the cap off and turned the valve anti clockwise as per user manual) but that hasn't made much if any difference.

I know this is quite a hard water area, but there was a softner installed when the tank was put in, but I don't know if that's still working properly or not.

Even in the morning, when its been on charge all night, the water temp in the shower is only luke warm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I didn't know I had to do that. Its just a black thing that sits on the mains water in pipe. It doesn't have anywhere to put salt in. Maybe its not a softer maybe its just a filter or something. Anyway I don't think thats the issue.

Does it look something like this?

Yes similar. I was just looking at the exact same thing. Mine's just black, probably a cheaper one the plumber put in when the tank was installed.

When you say the shower is luke warm, are all the hot taps the same temp

Yes, they're all the same. Seems hot for a few seconds then just warm.

John , after the cylinders been heated( i.e may be off peak, or on a programmer) is the pipe on the left of the blending valve, so hot you cant touch it, because it should be, if it isnt , it may be time for a new thermostat or setting the original , it should be set about 80 degrees .
If the pipe is hot , its time for a new blending valve pal, they never seem to adjust especialy in hard water areas.

Hi. Yes it is. I can't keep my fingers on it for long. OK thanks for your advise, I think I might be able to do that myself, I've changed a valve before. If the mixer valve is not mixing enough hot in, that would also explain the low pressure issue, and it has gone down since I tried to turn the temperature up.

Yep defo valve then, you can buy repair kits, but it isnt worth the bother IMO.
