Discuss Boiler adjustment after baffles cleaned in the USA area at PlumbersForums.net

I've been told that after cleaning out baffles you can't analyse the gass accurately for some reason. Is there any truth in this?
Seems to me that if cleaned as thoroughly as possible the readings shouldould be more accurate than what they were when all sorted up inside. 🤔

Any pointers or advice on the matter hugely appreciated.

Thanks

You wouldn't stick your flue gas analyser into a sooted up boiler or flue. Whoever told you that is wrong. Once the boiler has been cleaned you would obviously then use your smoke pump before taking flue gas readings with your analyser to set the burner up properly.
If the person who told you that is also the person maintaining your boiler I would look at getting someone else.

🐂 --it cleaning baffles is part of a full strip down and service on a oil boiler, a new oil filter and nozzle is the norm and once completed the boiler is tested with a smoke pump with a temporary oil pressure gauge fitted , before finally using a flue gas analyser to achieve a satisfactory reading by either adjusting the air into the burner and or oil pressure . Thank you guys very much for the responses.
That's cleared that up nicely.

Of all the services the boiler has had over the years never have I seen anyone use a smoke pump. 🤔
I think I understand the idea of smoke test but can't quite see why it's an important step if a gas analyser is used afterwards.
Is it a visual aid to show customer or is it healthier for analyser to be closer to the correct setting or?

Im really interested to learn so very grateful for any further comments on this.
Thank you very much. 👍

Healthier for the analyser as you say you really don't want to put it into a boiler with poor combustion it knacker the cells . Kop
