sounds

In physics, sound is a vibration that propagates as an acoustic wave, through a transmission medium such as a gas, liquid or solid.
In human physiology and psychology, sound is the reception of such waves and their perception by the brain. Only acoustic waves that have frequencies lying between about 20 Hz and 20 kHz, the audio frequency range, elicit an auditory percept in humans. In air at atmospheric pressure, these represent sound waves with wavelengths of 17 meters (56 ft) to 1.7 centimetres (0.67 in). Sound waves above 20 kHz are known as ultrasound and are not audible to humans. Sound waves below 20 Hz are known as infrasound. Different animal species have varying hearing ranges.

Strong vibration foghorn sounds in system

When we turn on the water first thing in the morning of after a while of non use there is vibration sound that can be heard to different degrees across the house. Its not instant but normally after a minute when the water has been turned off. It doesn't seem to be isolated to a particular...

Boiler making banging sounds and pressure fluctuates

Hi, We recently moved into a new rental property and have had issues with the heating. The house has a Baxi boiler, and when we moved in it wasn't working, with an E119 error, but this was easily fixed with topping up the water. However, about twice a week I need to do a top-up, so there must...

    Unvented cylinder constantly sounds ‘on’

Hi, I have an unvented cylinder and lately even without the boiler central heating or hot water ‘on’, the system sounds like it’s constantly ‘on’. All through the night, it used to be silent except when running, but now it can sound like it’s ‘on’ constantly for days at a time. Surely this...

My central heating sounds like it is on when it isn’t

I have a conventional heating system. Had boiler replaced last August and since then my heating has made a humming noise - even when it is off. Had British Gas come go look at it but couldn’t hear it. I asked if it may be something to do with tanks in loft, but he said no and wouldn’t even go...

Leaks and odd sounds (or lack thereof...)

Hi folks, I apologise that what I ask might be very uninformed and silly, but I have to admit to having virtually no DIY skills or understanding of plumbing systems whatsoever! The other day the radiator in my kitchen began to make a hissing sound that did not cease when the radiator was bled. A...

Expansion Tank sounds like a foghorn

We recently dropped the house water pressure from 70 to 60 psi and increased the pressure in the expansion tank from 40 to 60 psi as I was told that they should be the same. The hot water tank and the expansion tank are 3 months old and there were no issues when the house pressure was at 70 psi...

Hi all, Can anyone give me some advice as to why when I switch central heating to water only in summer, it doesn't take long for the sounds of rushing water in and around the circulation pump inside the airing cupboard. If I call for radiator heating and the 3 way valve goes to mid position...

Clicking sounds inside wall from pipe or from the toilet

Need advice around these clicking sounds. I posted last week, but I didn’t get much luck. This I have recorded the sounds. The sound appear to be around my toilet, but I don’t think the toilet is the issue but something behind toilet - in the wall and probably a pipe. Hope you can help me...

Hello everyone, I need a bit help around a noise coming from possible pipes. I'm sorry to ask what has probably been asked a million times but I can't find anything that really answers what's happening and would be really grateful for any advice. I live in an old property from the turn of last century and when I moved in the landlords got a firm in to clean and clear...

Hi I recently installed 2 new radiator valves in the bathroom and now when my boiler fires up it is very noisy after about 30 seconds and the cylinder in the airing cupboard makes gurgling noises so I have had to switch the boiler off. Hi all, Just had my new boiler installed. Went from a heat only with hot tank to a combi boiler. Its a Ideal Logic+ 30 and in the menu it shows sensor values. I understand there should be a large difference between flow and return values but quite often when running there is only a 5 degree...
