Hi, i need quite urgent help with something im not a plumber but this looks like the right place to come.

basically, i'm looking at using a vacuum insulated thermos tank for storing hot engine coolant (around 90-100 degrees c) in a motor vehicle application. the valves etc for the system will all be electronically controlled.

the issue im having is finding the best kind of valve to keep the heat insulated in the thermos tank - it will be kept there after the engine is turned off and i need to keep it as warm as possible for as long as possible. as i said im not a plumber and know nothing about valves etc but im sure there is some kind of specialised valve available?

its urgent because im due to give a presentation on this project on monday and this is the only part i havent decided on yet.

thanks

can you not lag the valve ,have not heard of one insulated valve yet ! but let see what the rest of the crew will come up with

that looks brill mate.

i am pretty much clueless here as i know nothing about plumbing, what do you mean by lag the valve?

cheers.

well thats another thing i need advice with actually, the tank will be running to a radiator matrix. because ive got limited heat available i need to conserve as much of it as possible, i was looking at what kind of pipes/insulation i could use to transport it but i cant seem to find a suitable material.

ive heard of some kind of foam being used but apparently it is very flammable? so i would think the heat from the engine bay would be too high, plus the heat of the coolant will be fairly close to the heat limit anyway. i also thought about insulating the pipes with fibreglass but have heard that it doesnt stand up well against water.

any ideas?

thanks again mate
