Yes it's single channel Didn't think about that when I bought it. Plumber who fitted it all did everything on the cheap(all done as part of a house extension so he was presumably on a price), so he set DHW to constant with no clock and just a stat to turn heating on and off by temperature settings. We weren't happy with the way the Drayton was working, so I decided to replace it, and have only just realised that I should have got a dual channel

He also fitted a magnetic de-scaler which obviously doesn't work so it looks like I'm going to be getting a proper water softner fitted as soon as my new plumber can get here. Unfortunately he's flat out until the end of Jan

As fa ras Im aware no magnetic/electronic scale reducers work. But happy to be proved wrong.

I`m not sure all boilers are ok with water softeners. Might be worth checking with the manufacturer? Is there a risk of the salt-softened water causing corrosion?

Mash, if I was you I would ask this new plumber to explain to you the requirements of Part L1 of the Building Regulations and how this should be met, regarding the requirements for time (as well as temperature control) on both the domestic hot water as well as the heating.

Another case of "diy'er saving money" only to find out it has cost them more.

Thanks Chris, will do. Advice appreciated. It's just a shame the original guy didn't think about all that when he installed it (on the cheap I suspect).

As for me doing a DIY to save money, I've actually spent nearly £1k on the boiler over the last year through getting a very well known and reputable plumber in to do the work. Unfortunately he was neither a Grant fan, or very knowledgeable, hence me doing some work on it in the interim just to keep it going whilst I found someone who knew Grants. As soon as he can get here, I hope to get it properly sorted, and legally as well.

More a case of DIY'er trying to keep the system going in desperation
