Hi all, I was wondering if anyone would be able to shed some light on something.

Is it possible for a dripping hot tap to become worse to the point that it is running fully if left on its own? My daughter left her uni accommodation for 3 months over the summer with a very occasionally dripping tap in her ensuite and has come back to a bedroom full of mould and a hot tap running almost fully! Myself and her father were with her when she left the accommodation and both of us made sure that all taps were turned off, as well as plugs etc. We are completely baffled!

Can anyone help?

Yes the tap could become gradually worse over time if the washer was already damaged,

And yes the heat would cause moisture in the room and create a build up of mould,
I'd suggest reporting it to the building manager and getting them to sort it

Yes it does, I had 2 days ago a customer who had 2 faulty ceramic tap cartridges and the water was running 12hours but not dripping running !!!

That's not all: both isolation valves were gone too you couldn't even isolate the tap.

Student accommodation ,I have memories of seeing flooding coming down lift shaft
( Not so convenient to be near lift on Grnd floor , good other floors ! )

Had that on sheltered housing, could hear water in the lift shaft and a wet car park. Still don't know what it was as couldn't get hold of lift company.

Basically yes, if the water passes through the valve it will wear away the brass seat until it flows at full bore!! The deeper the cut the quicker the corrosion.
