No what your saying, as it will protect the pipe, but because you have split the sleeve it can not contain the gas, so it would not comply.

i was suggesting the overflow is used instead of some tape and you still encase it in dab.

yep, if its a sleeve then doh cut it of course and doh use overflow use copper
