sealant
Sealant is a substance used to block the passage of fluids through the surface or joints or openings in materials, a type of mechanical seal. In building construction sealant is sometimes synonymous with caulking and also serve the purposes of blocking dust, sound and heat transmission. Sealants may be weak or strong, flexible or rigid, permanent or temporary. Sealants are not adhesives but some have adhesive qualities and are called adhesive-sealants or structural sealants.

However, she's now had her nipple pierced and we've been able to seal around the bath, shower tray & hand basin!!'

Hi,
I've fitted a shower tray and enclosure at a customers house. Followed what i believe to be all the key rules, the tray is firm and level, tiled down onto the tray, sealed all the way around the tray before putting the enclosure profiles on. But I've felt the underside of the silicone is...

We have a slight leak from the piping under our shower tray, and the ceiling of the room below gets wet if you shower for a long time. (I know the leak is in the pipework, not the tiles, grouting, sealant aroud the shower tray etc, as I have tried running water direct into the outlet hole...

I have an old floor standing Ideal Mexico with a 6" flue coming off the top. All nice apart from the 45 bend which is loose around the rest of the flue.

Got called out to this boiler with a noisy fan.
Noticed the case seal looked bit iffy and after testing confirmed that there was a slight case seal leak.
As most will know this is a positive case seal boiler and can be dangerous for obvious reasons.
My question is this:
Can the seal be...

I had to remove a horrible bath rubber strip today which was being used as a sealant.
Underneath it was a load of plumbers mait and dodgy old sealant.
I cleaned it all off using a sharp chisel, industrial wipes and a stanley blade.
Has anyone got a better way, I think this was a mess because...
I suspect we have a leak in our sealed unvented CH system - pressure seems to drop, albeit slowly. The situation improved drastically when a HE put Fernox inhibitor in - now pressure drops about 0.1 bar over 2 months.
Would Leak Sealant be sensible? I have heard Vaillant will not honour their...

I have a problem with a loose basin mixer tap. It's a single screw fixing and, unfortunately, the metal horseshoe washer has become bent.
1) Is it possible to get a replacement horseshoe washer? I've tried a couple of local plumber's merchants who don't have any spares.
2) Is there anything...

Hello
I was reading a thread from a couple of days ago in which a couple of people were debating the best type of sealants to use when fitting wastes in sanitaryware.
I have until now been using plumbers mate which works okay but you can quickly get into a mess with it. I have used it on...

Hi,
Recently had a plumber fit my bathroom, but it appears they weren't to careful as there's some blobs of excess sealant on the sink. What is the best product to remove the sealant.
Rgds.
