open vented
An open-source ventilator is a disaster-situation ventilator made using a freely licensed (open-source) design, and ideally, freely available components and parts (open-source hardware). Designs, components, and parts may be anywhere from completely reverse-engineered or completely new creations, components may be adaptations of various inexpensive existing products, and special hard-to-find and/or expensive parts may be 3D-printed instead of purchased. As of early 2020, the levels of documentation and testing of open-source ventilators was well below scientific and medical-grade standards. One small, early prototype effort was the Pandemic Ventilator created in 2008 during the resurgence of H5N1 avian influenza that began in 2003, so named "because it is meant to be used as a ventilator of last resort during a possible avian (bird) flu pandemic."
Evening all. Asked by customer to look at new unvented installation he recently had done by others. Number off issues picked up on the install but the my main concern was the fact they converted the back boiler from open vented to a sealed system. Expansion vessel is way undersized. Am I right...
Ive been asked to remedy the low water pressure at the x8 electric shower outlets at a care home.
Currently its an open vented system, with heat only boiler with CWS and F and E tank.
It appears all the showers are run from the gravity feed and a few off the cold mains? Its hard to know given...
On a thread I started recently , cannot find which one, somebody mentioned that bleeding of the rads on an open vented system should be done with the pump off so as to not possibly draw air into the system. Do I read into this then that auto bleed valves are not a good idea on that type of...
Hi All,
First post here, so please be kind!
I am currently having a lot of trouble with air and related noise in my open vented heating system. Long story, with lots of things tried already, so please bear with me…
Firstly, a photo of the heart of the system in the garage as it is today (lots...
Converting an old one piper system into a two pipe. Also going unvented for the hot water.
Just trying to find out if I can seal the following boiler, being put off as it says open vent on the front cover.
It's a Vitodens 100 W WB1B 26 kw Regular Boiler Open Vented.
Cheers.
Hi there,
Looking for a simple solution for a header tank for a solid fuel stove, open vented, pumped central heating system. Would like tank to be opaque, so level of coolant can be checked, obviously good for high temps (100deg plus?) roughly 2l capacity, and to have an overflow connection...
Hi Chaps,
We've just had a new boiler/system installed by a plumber and it was wired separately by a qualified electrician, the electrician wired this as per the Vaillant manual.
The system is fully filled and vented but when trying to call for heat or water via the stats nothing seems to...
Issue is – We have a Mains Pressure Hot Water, Open vented, Solar thermal storage unit in a single storey property with 2 Direct feeds (One for multi fuel burner and one for oil/gas boiler). There will be a boiler stove fitted to one and it’s planned to fit a gas boiler to the other (in...

Hi all,
My customer has had a legionella assessment done, as part of renting out her house.
She has a fairly new, open-vented CWST in the attic. The hot water vent pipe discharges over the CWST, as is standard practise. However, the assessor says this is a legionella risk, and has recommended...
Fitted my first envirofoam stainless steel cylinder yesterday!
Impressed with them compared to the crap quality copper tanks we get sold around my way.
£130plus vat vat for 1050x400 no fittings required as they are all 22mm compression.
Comes with a shower draw off / secondary return as...
Hello to all. Notwithstanding some people’s views on open vented gravity centralheating systems I am in the process of designing such a system to run of mywoodturning Rayburn. I have spent sometime considering the options and various safety aspects of such a system butwould appreciate a little...
Hi,
im a GSR engineer but not from a plumbing background.
I have a customer with an open vented system that is having to bleed radiators downstairs and upstairs every few weeks.
I asked a plumber about this and he said it was either
1. A leak allowing air into system
2. The expansion pipe rises...
Hi
Can someone advise how I can clear an airlock on an open vented sys.
There is a drain point on the flow & return which i have opened and water comes out but there is no circulation.
Also bleed the bleed valves on the DHW pipe near the cylinder & one on the heating near the boiler.
Im replacing boiler for like to like but with a bypass valve and two motorised valves. Since the new boiler has a flow and return unlike the old boiler that had four tappings. Could I tee the vent Pipe into the cold feed pipe?
where the vent pipe is ATM is before the flow goes into the coil to...

OK, first post on here - I’ve got a question.
I want to integrate a wood burner into my central heating system. I have currently got a combi boiler. I don’t have a hot water tank and nor do I have room for one, or a thermal store.
As I want to install a wood burner with a boiler I need an open...
Hi guys,
